Word on the Streets: Client Spotlights

It has been yet another busy month for Streets Consulting, and for me, a month that left me honoured and humbled.

I was overwhelmed to have been awarded an MBE in HM The King’s 2025 Birthday Honours List, for ‘services to diversity and inclusion in entrepreneurship, particularly in the financial services and technology sectors’.  As an entrepreneur, fintech obsessive, mentor and coach, I am so deeply passionate about driving businesses ever forward, shaping industry debate, helping leaders thrive and creating a more inclusive financial services ecosystem.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion matter now, arguably more than ever before. So I was also honoured to be the guest speaker at the Euronext Employee Pride Event recently, and am thankful for the invitation to share insights on a topic that remains profoundly important to our industry and society, and one that is very close to my heart.

In today’s complex business climate, where narratives surrounding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) are increasingly challenged, it is more crucial than ever to underscore their fundamental importance. It’s not merely about what we say, but what we do that matters, particularly in attracting and retaining the next generation of talent.

As it is Pride Month, I have shared my key highlights from the Euronext fireside chat here.

And as always, we continue to champion our clients’ successes, so this month’s newsletter is focused on highlighting their achievements over the recent months. We are proud to advise, represent and work with them and do not take lightly the trust they place in us to help them grow and succeed.

Kind regards,

Julia Streets, MBE  (Yes, I know! It’ll take a while to get used to it!)

In a world where DE&I rhetoric often outweighs action, how do we drive real change?  Julia Streets, MBE, Founder and CEO of Streets Consulting, urges a move beyond performative gestures and explores five critical pillars for fostering genuine inclusion in the workplace. Drawing on a unique career journey and expert insights, the blog examines how to navigate these future challenges for the financial technology sector.

Eye on AI

Midjourney has launched its highly anticipated image-to-video model, V1, which is available exclusively on Discord. The model allows users to generate four five-second video clips from a single image, with the option to extend the videos to 21 seconds. Midjourney’s V1 model is now in direct competition with other AI video models such as Google’s recently launched VEO3, Sora, Runway, and Firefly from Adobe.

However, Midjourney is also the subject of a major new lawsuit.  Entertainment giants Disney and Universal are suing the AI image generation company, calling it a ‘bottomless pit of plagiarism’, citing examples of the reproduction of characters from Star Wars to the Marvel franchise.  This looks set to be a landmark case and could have major implications for the future of AI training practices and copyright law in the entertainment and technology industries.

The UK’s Data Use and Access Bill officially became law after receiving Royal Assent on 19th June. A significant debate raged over whether the new law would include specific provisions on copyright and AI. Despite a determined push from the House of Lords, their attempts to introduce AI transparency requirements, which would compel AI developers to inform copyright holders if their work has been used in the training of AI models, ultimately failed.

A US federal court has ruled Meta’s use of millions of copyrighted works for AI model training constitutes “fair use”. This important decision protects tech companies developing AI, affirming the transformative nature of AI technology even when using existing content. It’s a significant legal precedent for AI innovation.
